You’ve seen it on the runway, you’ve seen it on the streets, and if you haven’t already it is time to embrace one of the major trends for this Spring and Summer – gingham. I think it is so summery and give sort of positive vibes, no wonder it’s everywhere. To be honest I wasn’t entirely sure of how to bring the gingham trend into my wardrobe so I eased myself with getting a gingham shirt (because: nothing more versatile and easier than a button down) and now I’m hooked! I’ll talk through few ways of how you can easily style up a gingham shirt and also look at other pieces that can be incorporated in your wardrobe if you’re a little more daring.
3 EASY WAYS TO STYLE A GINGHAM SHIRT
This is pretty obvious, jeans + shirt = great combination. Which is why I wanted to show how easy it is. I opted for mom jeans with busted knees and let-down hems for casual yet little edgy look and since the jeans are very high-waisted I tied up the shirt at the waist. Finished off with silver jewellery and nude lace-up ballerinas. If you prefer mid-rise jeans I suggest tucking in one side of the shirt to accentuate the waist.
A gingham button down will look great with one coloured skirt and you won’t have to worry about different prints clashing. Tuck one side in for mini skirt or again tie the shirt up with high-waisted skirts to make it almost like a crop top.
I can already see myself wearing the gingham shirt with white denim shorts in the summer. Such a classic combination and the white will make gingham pop. Then you can play around with some colourful accessories, be it a bright bag or shoes in a fun print.
For jeans and shorts option you can also wear a basic cami and wear an open gingham shirt over it for a slightly different look.
OTHER GINGHAM PIECES YOU CAN EASILY INCORPORATE IN WARDROBE
Cold shoulder or off the shoulder gingham dresses are so fun and perfect for the warmer months. Since with wearing a dress you basically have the whole outfit sorted you can choose other colour options than black & white gingham without thinking about colour pairing. Pastel pinks or blues, washed out lemon colour, bright red, it’s your pick! A gingham dress will pair nicely with espadrilles and will give you a preppy look.
No matter the cut and style of gingham trousers monochromatic look is a way to go. Since gingham trousers are so attention grabbing you want to keep the rest of the outfit simple and clean. A t-shirt with simple graphic element/text or just plain will be a great combination. For more smart style trousers you can opt for a blouse in white or black.
